To avoid global temperature rises exceeding 2°C, no more than a third of proven fossil fuel reserves can be burned before 2050. To achieve this will require a massive overhaul of the energy system – a huge challenge given its deep entrenchment in the social, economic and political fabric of most societies. Despite this, in the past decade the energy system has in fact already changed significantly, in response to the shale revolution and dramatic shifts in demand. Investors, governments, citizens and companies must enhance their understanding of the risks inherent in today’s system, and of the opportunities involved in responding proactively to climate change.
Meteos convenes and supports multi-sector initiatives aiming to support the transition to a low-carbon energy system.
